Miguel Milá was born in Catalan and started working as an interior designer in the architecture studio of Alfonso Milá and Federico Correa. It was the end of the 50s, a time of crisis, when there was practically no industry and almost everything was handmade. Despite the shortage of means and raw materials Milá started designing lamps and furniture creating a framework that was to define his design methodology and inform an appreciation of materials and traditional techniques. Miguel Milá has become a classic figure in the industry. His work has focused on bringing tradition up to date with many of his products overcoming the circumstances of their inception and still in production. In 1987 he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Diseño and in 2008 the Compasso d'Oro in recognition of his career and contribution to the promotion of Spanish design.
