How do you design a square sofa that doesn’t look like every other square sofa? How do you make it obviously different without actually adding anything unnecessary? How do you make something that is bordering on too big look elegant? Surely trying to add subtlety and poise to something so substantial is akin to putting a tutu on an elephant, well yes, it can be. However if your sofa is as perfectly proportioned and graceful as a Welbeck then that will be one balletic pachyderm. The beauty of the Welbeck is that nothing is superfluous, the arms are wide but so are the cushions, there are no visible feet, the sofa seems to float, sitting as it does on hidden rails. The body has no added detail but the cushions are piped, everything is held in perfect balance, creating a large sofa that never overwhelms, never dominates. Of course this balance could be problematic if you require a smaller model or a chair so that is why we make them with slimmer arms so that the proportion is maintained. The Welbeck is the perfect family sofa, looks great in a colour and is also available as a made to measure corner system.

We build them one at a time from scratch to the highest possible standard, to the individual specification of our clients, in our Sussex workshops. Our sofas are an exceptional blend of tradition and innovation with frames from first grade kiln dried beech with glued, screwed and dowelled joints, legs in a timber and finish of your choice and with upholstery employing the finest modern materials and techniques.
