Tom Dixon Beat Table Light

The Beat Table Light by Tom Dixon is the latest edition to a series of lights inspired by the sculptural simplicity of cooking pots and water vessels found on the Indian subcontinent. The shades are handmade from brass which is spun and formed and then beaten on the inside by the renowned craftsmen of Moradabad in Northern India. Once beaten the shades have to be spun again so that any irregularities in the outer surface can be removed leaving a beautiful smooth finish which is left brushed or painted in black or white lacquer. The double conical shade is attached to a black or brass articulated arm with a substantial joint and then to a solid cast iron base with a brass on/off switch. The table light emits a warm localised illumination and together with its hanging brethren can create a beautiful collection of different forms that seem to harmonise through shared history.
