Pallucco Gilda

The Gilda is a light of almost mythical proportion. Originally inspired by the stability and versatility of a telescopic music stand the designer Enrico Franzolini wondered what might happen if he increased its size and topped it with a truly massive shade. Pallucco got involved and the result is one of the most simple yet impressive floor lights ever conceived. Everything is big about this light, from the spread of its three legs, to its maximum height of almost three metres to its enormous shade and dimmable 250 watt light output. It is for big spaces, tall rooms, broad imaginations and yet there is nothing clumsy about it, it is elegant, poised resolutely beautiful. Available with a white or ivory fine weave shade or in black or natural textured jute the Gilda is guaranteed to quicken hearts, open mouths and widen eyes. Smaller Baby Gilda also available.

Enrico Franzolini is an architect and industrial designer who studied in Florence, graduating from the University of Venice in 1979. His passion and early artistic research translated into numerous exhibitions, starting with a presence at the 1972 Venice Biennale in the decorative arts section. Besides his pictorial success, he has also become renowned for his architecture and industrial design. His studio, founded in Udine in 1981, takes on very diverse design projects with scale and object but they all remain recognisable due to Enrico's distinctive method and coherence. Numerous architectural projects have been realised and published, while in industrial design he has enjoyed many collaborations with some of the most prestigious companies in the furniture and lighting sector such as Alias, Cappellini, De Padova, Foscarini, Knoll International and Moroso.

Pallucco was created in the 1970s in Rome by architect Paolo Pallucco. In the early 1980s, the company moved to the Veneto region and immediately stood out for the non-conformist concept of its designs and image. Pallucco stands for design culture and experimentation of art and architecture in an ongoing exploration of the boundaries of contemporary design. The company switches from the research of the most diverse idioms and styles, under the guidance of Hannes Wettstein and Jurgen Bey, to contamination with the fashion world through the collaboration with photographer Peter Lindbergh and stylist Rei Kawakubo. Pallucco's collection includes designs that revive ancient techniques such as glass blowing in cage or explore the technical and aesthetic potential of metal mesh. A new language brings exclusive products to the Pallucco collection, alongside models which have become icons, such as the glorious Fortuny lamp and the statuesque Gilda.
