Normann Copenhagen Shelter

Shelter is a simple yet characterful table lamp by HolmbäckNordentoft for Normann Copenhagen. It bursts up from the table and towers over the desk reflecting a soft and cosy light across any surface beneath it. The inner side of the shade is always white which provides an effective light spread, while its wide, curved shape directs the light making it pleasant and anti-dazzling. It is a modern and very Scandinavian design, a beautifully organic shape while also finding inspiration from the 1960's lighting designs when the space age ruled, very 'cities in the sky'. HolmbäckNordentoft thought of every detail, at the base the steel lifts slightly, like a curtain, to reveal the cable and a flash of brass detailing, creating a visual connection between the necessary evil of the cord and the lamp. Shelter is available in white or black.

Sebastian Holmbäck and Ulrik Nordentoft both attended the Danish Design School graduating in 1999. After almost ten years apart, pursuing their own successful careers as design professionals, they joined forces in late 2008, and set about creating their own studio, the eponymous, HolmbäckNordentoft. They are both interested in a very wide field of work, anything from lighting, furniture and interiors to textiles and complex building components. For HolmbäckNordentoft the primary focus when creating new products is uniting all the complex aspects of product development, moving beyond the mere visual appearance of the final product in order to represent a holistic approach where consideration for the environment, the consumer and economy matters equally.

Jan Andersen and Poul Madsen teamed up in 1999 hoping to find a new form of expression within the design industry. In 2002 they launched their first product, the lamp Norm 69 under the name: Normann Copenhagen, a brand was born. Within five years the Normann Copenhagen range consisted of almost 40 products including sculptural lighting, stunning textiles and clever home accessories and they had broadened their design horizons by collaborating with established names as well new talents from around the world. In 2009 Normann Copenhagen decided it was time to introduce furniture pieces as well, original, bold and eye-catching pieces with simple and contemporary designs that could withstand the test of time. Today Normann Copenhagen continues to introduce exciting and boldly designed products but the choice of colour has become of particular importance often changing seasonally and being inspired by trends you might more likely find in the fashion world.
