Gubi Adnet Mirror Tan

Designing a successful hanging mirror is always a bit tricky. Largely because it is very difficult to see one without looking at oneself. With the Adnet Mirror however this is not a problem as the mirror not the reflection is always going to be the first thing you notice. Designed by Jacques Adnet in 1954 in association with Hermes, the Adnet was reissued to original specification by Gubi in 2011. Inspired by equestrian tack the mirror is encircled in a heavy tan or black leather ring to which a hanging strap, whose length is equal to the diameter of the mirror, is attached via brass buckles. The Adnet sounds very designed, and it is, but in a good way, rarely do you find any object, especially a mirror, that works so well in so many different environs. From the classic interior to the minimal your choice of an Adnet Mirror will always reflect well on you.

Jacques Adnet (1900 - 1984) was a French architect and Art Deco Modernist designer and an icon of luxurious French Modernism. After completing his studies at the Municipal School of Design in Auxerre and the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs, Adnet established the design company, JJ Adnet with his twin brother Jean. In 1925, Adnet was recognised as one of the most promising young designers at both the Salon d'Automne and Les Expositions des Arts Decoratifs. Adnet was to become rightly renowned for his innovative integration of metal and glass in the structure and decoration of furniture. The work was always accomplished at the very highest level of skill and craftsmanship and his work is now appreciated and collected worldwide and is considered the epitome of luxury. As well as designing furniture and mirrors, Adnet designed apartments and offices for numerous clients, including the French President and Unesco

Gubi was founded in 1967 by Gubi and Lisbeth Olsen. They initially focused on producing Olsen's furniture designs and selling textiles to the retail sector but changed direction in 2001 after they were joined by their sons who had returned after some years working in the fashion industry. Since then Gubi have transposed the original creative vision into a contemporary context, placing themselves on the map as a global player on the design scene. They see themselves as treasure hunters, where curiosity, courage and intuition are key components for success. It involves travelling, searching and finding long forgotten remnants from the past as well as contemporary, cutting-edge designs from new artists on the horizon. In an ever-changing international landscape, it takes an enormous amount of drive and determination to keep chasing icons. It's that type of endless energy, enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit which has catapulted Gubi into an iconic status all its own.
