Flos Button

The Button lamp is a lovely low profile ceiling or wall light by Piero Lissoni for Flos. It is called Button for a reason, it looks like one. Not in a toy town kind of way but in a quiet ‘wouldn’t have noticed unless you mentioned it’ kind of way. There are two types, the larger whiter opaline glass halogen version which is very bright and perfect for large areas where more than ordinary illumination is called for and the slightly smaller greyer polycarbonate dual fluorescent tube version which has silicon seals and is well suited to bathrooms and utilities. The lights give off a lovely even glow that surrounds the chrome detail at the centre, which is also the fixing screw for the diffuser and gives the light a very purposeful appearance. There is a mini version available too which works well in a line as hall wall or ceiling lights, on stairways or around or above a bathroom mirror. The Button is not only a great feature light in rooms of generous proportion it can also be a simple lighting solution for anywhere with high style but low ceilings.

For fifty years Flos have been crafting objects out of light. Light is the medium they work in order to express new ideas and illuminate emotions. Flos see the future, embrace the past and live in the present, facing the challenges and choices that have shaped their image and identity. History has taught them to fan the flames of provocation into new poetic notions of functionality, to trust intuition, to dare to create products that no one else would and to establish new typologies and archetypes. Flos are connected to the old masters of design yet happy to promote new talents, to command high technological status, to be revered for what they have done and what they might yet do. Flos open the way through experimentation and the use of revolutionary materials, they strive to conceive new languages around light and to chart new aesthetics, new freedoms for living. Flos walk the fine line between art and design, craftsmanship and industry, between an individual idea and the collective imagination.
