The crossover sofa is always a difficult balance to achieve, it must not look like a strange collision of period but must appear an effortless alignment of classic signifier and modern form. The Porter is a sofa that accomplishes this feat with considered aplomb. Neither fully of this time nor of the past it is significant for its delightful but definite ambiguity. From its set back square arms to the slender tapered legs, its finely tailored body contrasts with its looser reflex and feather seat cushions and the three slightly higher than usual blended backs. This combination of taut discipline and casual repose provides a wonderful contemporary twist and also ensures that the Porter is always as comfortable as it is beautiful.

Rume sofas are not available to purchase online for good reason. We build them one at a time from scratch to the highest possible standard, to the individual specification of our clients, in our Sussex workshops. Our sofas are an exceptional blend of tradition and innovation with frames from first grade kiln dried beech with glued, screwed and dowelled joints, legs in a timber and finish of your choice and with upholstery employing the finest modern materials and techniques. Rume design and make beautiful timeless furniture that is built to last and as such represents good value for money. Based on your preferences we will then send you a range of fabric, leather or timber samples and guide you through the process of final selection by correspondence. Our lead times are approximately ten weeks and we can deliver anywhere within the United Kingdom and international transport can be arranged on a case by case basis.
