The original Nur by Ernesto Gismondi for Artemide is a big bold and beautiful light, assuming that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This is a light that divides opinion, it does not do subtle or graceful, it hangs overhead in exactly the same way that an elephant doesn’t. The Nur is faintly agricultural and with that in mind Ernesto revisited his marvellous design classic and reimagined it. Shiny. Like the Nur the Nur Gloss is spun from a single piece of aluminium but this time rather than its surface deliberately faintly ringed it is finished until perfectly smooth then painted in a high gloss black or white. It hangs from a colour matched ceiling rose via three slim steel wires and has an opaque diffuser which entirely closes the bottom. In common with its slightly rougher parent it has a sandblasted glass top piece which glows softly with referred light and comes in two sizes. The Nur Gloss is exactly what you would expect when the offspring of the daddy of all lights moves to the big city and gets all high falootin.
