The square armed sofa has quickly become everybody's idea of what a modern sofa should look like. As a consequence they have become somewhat ubiquitous and in that rather predictable. Our square sofas however are designed to be different, just because everybody else does them is no reason not to, in fact it is an added incentive to make sure that we do them better. Much better. The Lissom is a perfect example of that philosophy, a combination of potentially conflicting elements elegantly resolved, a contradiction of wide arms, slender seat platform and deep sumptuous cushions all placed upon slim hand-turned descending ball legs. It is at once substantial and light, seeming to float as you approach like a flat rock balancing upon towers of pebbles, no less than a gravity defying realisation of comfy handmade loveliness.

Rume sofas are not available to purchase online for good reason. We build them one at a time from scratch to the highest possible standard, to the individual specification of our clients, in our Sussex workshops. Our sofas are an exceptional blend of tradition and innovation with frames from first grade kiln dried beech with glued, screwed and dowelled joints, legs in a timber and finish of your choice and with upholstery employing the finest modern materials and techniques. Rume design and make beautiful timeless furniture that is built to last and as such represents good value for money.
