The Scraplights from design company Graypants are so called because originally they were actually made from scrap cardboard. The sudden popularity of the lights quickly propelled them beyond the available supply of suitable scrap and they are now made from new but recycled cardboard whose consistency and quality can be guaranteed whilst maintaining the companies eco aspirations. The lights are surprisingly tough and have an elegance that belies their humble beginnings. Every Scraplight is assembled by hand with rings that are cut by precision laser, these rings are carefully aligned so that the corrugations in the cardboard create a wave effect that runs all the way around the shade. All adhesives and fire retardants used in their construction are non toxic and friendly to the environment. The Scraplights are a beautiful study in sustainable design and responsible usage and as such are not designed to provide brilliant illumination rather a warm, intimate yet functional light.
