Some time ago whilst visiting the park I passed a house with the type of decorative block wall that was popular in the seventies. I was immediately arrested and stood staring at the pattern, I had seen it somewhere before. A couple of days later I was stuck on a new design for a sideboard when the pattern on the blocks just jumped into my head. After a little research and being very pleased with its Moorish origins I came up with a design incorporating it in the doors. I showed it to my brother, he wasn’t sure. ‘I’m not sure,’ he said. I smiled reassuringly. ‘It’s Moorish.’ I told him. ‘Oh I see,’ he replied. ‘Like a chocolate digestive.’ The Fret Two Door is part of a very morish range of handmade and hand painted cabinets with inlaid laser cut frets in the doors and ends. Each self closing cupboard has a single adjustable shelf, except for the Tallboy which has two, and a painted back so that it can be used as a room divider. It comes in white as standard but other RAL colours are available on request.

Rume furniture is not available to purchase online for good reason. We build all of our pieces one at a time from scratch to the highest possible standard, to the individual specification of our clients, in our Sussex workshops. Our furniture is an exceptional blend of tradition and innovation employing the finest of modern materials and techniques. Our tables and cabinets are beautifully made with first grade timbers, quality board and the very best finishes whether it be paint, wax or lacquer. Rume design and craft meticulous, timeless furniture in England that is built to last and as such represents good value for money.
