Playsam Mefistofele

This gorgeous sleek car from Playsam is inspired by the famous 1924 racing Fiat Mesfistofele. With its large wheels, long bonnet and pointed tail it really is energy in motion. As a leading Scandinavian design company working in the competitive world of toys Playsam play by different rules. They have developed a beautiful range of wooden toys that are not only timeless but also ageless, bought not only for the young but also by the young at heart. Playsam toys don’t distinguish between the grown up collector and the playful child, it does not matter if they are kept on a high shelf or in a toybox on the floor, Playsam toys can handle it. Made from robust solid beech with a fantastic high gloss paint finish they are lovely to hold and behold, seamless vehicles of both art and imagination.

Jonas Forsberg has studied product design for five years at the Linnaeus University School of Design located on the grounds of the old Pukeberg Glassworks in Småland, Sweden. During this time some of his work caught the eye of Playsam’s CEO Carl Zedig that would subsequently lead up to his inclusion among the company’s line-up of designers. His first ever product was an interpretation of the famous 1924 world land speed record holder Mefistofele and was a direct result from the collaboration between the Fiat Automotive Company and Playsam. With a firm interest in everything motorized his designs are characterized by simple yet strong lines heavily influenced by a bygone era but always sporting a modern twist.

Playsam have been making wonderful wooden toys since 1984 and have become one of the leading design companies in Scandinavia. They are a very small team that punch above their weight creating instantly recognisable designs whose beautiful sleek lines grace the collections of many design museums around the world. Made mostly from wood, metal and with the occasional plastic crash helmet Playsam achieve their unique finish through nothing more technical than hard work and skill. The deep gloss is created by applying many coats of paint to a perfectly prepared surface until the object takes on an almost super real quality. Holding a Playsam toy is a surreal pleasure one enjoyed both by adult collectors and children alike. Classic and contemporary, fanciful and functional, simple and sophisticated, these characteristics may seem slightly contradictory but Playsam firmly believe that contradiction is the key to success. Playsam is a small company with a big name.
