When designing a wooden toy it is essential never to forget that it will at some point, hopefully, have to be made. It is about distilling the essence of the thing down into a pure yet comprehensive form, one that won't betray its origins nor confound the manufacturing process.
So it is with Mesfistofele from Playsam, an apparently simple yet devilishly complex rendering of the famous 1924 Fiat racing car. Jonas Forsberg, the designer, has managed to capture the energy, the motion, the spirit of the car with only a few lines but without compromise.
Made from robust beech wood with a fantastic high gloss paint finish it is lovely to hold and behold, a seamless vehicle of both art and imagination, beautifully simple and simply beautiful.
