Lucy Burley is a ceramicist. Lucy takes raw lumps of the good earth and through ancient alchemy and fire transforms them into lovely colourful things.
She doesn't release the object from the clay but rather draws the beauty out of it, raising it from the wheel with her hands, compelling it with her fingers.
Bottles, jugs and vases spring from her touch, each with a purpose, these are useful vessels, individual, solitary yet able to find strength and character within a group.
Inspired by the paintings of Giorgio Morandi, Lucy seeks to create a similar sense of gentle concord, gathering the colours of the sky, the seashore, precious stones, plants and trees and lending them to her art so that they might, if you wish, come together in complementary quietude, to create a beautiful, harmonious still life.
